Applications open for Addictions Counselling degree
Applications to study Action on Addiction’s foundation degree (FdSc) in Addictions Counselling in September 2020 are now open.
Franchised by the University of Bath and accredited by the Federation of Drug and Alcohol Practitioners, the degree gives students the vocational skills required to become a practitioner in this field. For eligible students, there is an opportunity of a third year of study to gain a full BSc honours degree in Addictions Counselling.
These courses provide an understanding of the latest developments in addictions treatment and how to deliver safe and effective interventions for addictive behaviours. The course is a mix of academic study at the Centre for Addiction Treatment Studies, Action on Addiction’s world-leading research centre in Warminster, alongside work-based learning through practice placements in a location of the student’s choice in either a community or residential treatment setting.
Each unit is taught in two, three, four and five-day blocks by academic staff and practitioners who are experts in their field.
Applications for the degree programme should be submitted via UCAS by the closing date of 30 June 2020 prior to enrolment in September.
Katherine Jenkins, Programme Leader at the Centre for Addiction Treatment Studies, said: “The psychology of addiction is a fascinating field and so attracts a broad church of people. Our students come from a huge variety of backgrounds – we have a number of A-Level leavers but the majority of students are looking for a career change, perhaps because they are in recovery themselves or work in a related field.
“Some of our graduates will continue their studies and go on to achieve a masters or a doctorate, while others will secure work with residential treatment providers, community recovery services or local drug and alcohol services both in the UK and abroad.”
