Head of Service
(Community Recovery)

Action on Addiction has been working in Liverpool since 2004. We have recently been awarded an enhanced contract with the City Council that gives us a presence in the City for the next 5 to 7 years and allows us to create an ambitious and exciting development plan in harmony with the Council’s Fair City Policy. We are therefore looking for someone exceptional to lead and develop our services in Liverpool and the wider City region. 

This role will require you to:

  • Lead the delivery of Action on Addiction’s services in Liverpool and any additional grant-funded activities in accordance with the contract
  • Manage a current budget of £1m+ pa but constantly seek to build substantial new business and pursue opportunities for growth
  • Lead a strong and extremely effective team that delivers high quality community-based recovery services
  • Further develop and promote our Brink Café with a commercial approach, seeking to generate increased revenue
  • Be Action on Addiction’s ambassador in this region, developing new business opportunities and playing a key role in building the addiction recovery community
  • Deliver against agreed business objectives and performance targets year-on-year

Our ideal candidate is someone who:

  • Can demonstrate operational leadership in a service-based multi-site, multi-dimensional context
  • Has commercial experience from working in roles such as operation/service manager or business development manager
  • Has experience of setting and managing budgets, as well as controlling contracts and resource planning
  • Is educated to degree level, preferably with a higher education qualification in management/leadership, service delivery and business administration

In terms of your personal attributes, you will:

  • Engender confidence in leadership with clients, customers, partners and staff
  • Ideally have a strong understanding of the way commissioner-provider systems and networks operate, particularly in the field of substance misuse and/or addiction recovery.

 This is a full time role, based at our Rodney Street offices in Liverpool ( L1 9EF)

Volunteer Coordinator
(Community Recovery)

Central Liverpool

Full time (35 hrs/wk, normally Mon to Fri, some unsocial hours)

£19k pa

The Action on Addiction Community Recovery programme in Liverpool is designed to help people with drug and alcohol problems receive abstinence-based treatment while residing in the community.

Key duties will include:

  • Co-ordinating the recruitment, retention, training and support of volunteers for Action on Addiction in Liverpool
  • Recruiting volunteers from the recovery community and elsewhere on a regular basis, act as their Mentor and have regular 1:1s with them
  • Ensuring prospective volunteers are processed in accordance with our safer recruitment procedures, eg DBS checks, induction, training etc
  • Organising volunteer training events (currently 3 per annum)
  • Keeping records up to date and ensure accurate reporting
  • In conjunction with our Outreach Team (Brink of Change), creating and supporting the work of our proposed Community Outreach Hub 

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • Experience of attracting, managing and mentoring volunteers, ideally those who have had difficult or dysfunctional backgrounds or from disadvantaged groups
  • Experience of assessing applicants suitably for volunteer work
  • Competent administrative and IT skills that support the need to handle and report on a wide range of information, as well as good project and event management skills
  • Empathy and understanding towards those with an addiction or in recovery from addiction

Healthcare Assistant

Clouds House, East Knoyle

We are looking for a healthcare assistant who holds the Care Certificate or the Diploma in Health & Social Care level 2 to join our innovative and effective medical team. The work we do with a very diverse client group is both highly rewarding and transformative.

Duties include:

  • Check blood pressure
  • Observe clients taking their medication & witnessing the dispensing of controlled drugs
  • Liaise with the kitchen about client requirements for food
  • Urine testing/drug screening and alcohol testing
  • Maintain adequate linen supplies
  • Clean and prepare bed spaces with an awareness of infection control issues

About you:

  • Previous experience of working as a healthcare assistant is essential.
  • Knowledge and previous experience of working with addictions is not essential – training will be provided.
  • You will be able to work 35 hours per week on a seven-day rota (including weekends and evening until 9.00pm).
  • Salaries are reflective of qualifications, experience & performance.
  • Opportunity to gain the Diploma in Health & Social Care level 3, after a successful probation period.
