Unlike many charities in our field which are predominately government funded, about half our income comes from contracts and charitable activities, the other half comes from fundraising. This means that the income we obtain from our contracts and business activities enables Action on Addiction to be fully focused on doing things well in the areas we operate in. Meanwhile, our fundraised income allows us to evaluate, innovate, and expand our reach. Our fundraising approach is focused on the following key areas:
Charity funded treatment
Each year, we help more and more people by giving them the chance of specialist addictions treatment. Our charity funded treatment scheme helps people who cannot obtain funding from any other source to receive life-saving treatment from Action on Addiction.
Movng Parents and Children Together (M-PACT)
A 12 year evaluation of M-PACT shows that the programme has a positive effect on some of the factors that are known to build resilience in families affected by parental substance misuse. Having trained 450 M-PACT practitioners to deliver the M-PACT programme, we are now working on reaching further and deeper into the heart of communities and to train 120 practitioners each year for the next five years.
Research
Action on Addiction has helped fund some of the most critical research of the last three decades. We are now focusing our attention on important areas that still require further investigation, such as the effect of treatment on different age groups and how self-help and community-led approaches to recovery can be enhanced by digital technology.
Clouds in the Community
The Self Help Addiction Recovery Programme (SHARP) is one of the most effective and longest established community-based addictions treatment programmes in the UK. By leveraging partnerships with government, social investors and philanthropists, Action on Addiction is working on growing its number of community-based treatment centres in some of the country’s most deprived neighbourhoods so that people in the hardest-to-reach communities can also benefit from our treatment, as well as pre-abstinence interventions, aftercare and family-focused work.
Clouds House, our life-changing treatment centre
The demand for treatment at Clouds has never been greater, and one of our key fundraising projects is to refurbish our treatment rooms, accommodation, dining area and lounges so we can continue to ensure that we are providing the best possible care and treatment in the best possible environment for an ever expanding number of clients.
Professional education
At Action on Addiction we are determined to address the paucity of high quality training in the wider addictions field. We are fundraising to enable some would-be students who face significant barriers in accessing higher education.
Giving people the opportunity to make changes in their lives – for the better and for the long term – is rewarding, inspiring and transformative work. If you feel inspired to join our growing network of alumni, supporters and donors who are determined to make a lasting difference to lives so damaged by addiction and who believe in the wide-ranging benefits of recovery for individuals, family and society, then I would love to hear from you.
