Dr Tim Leighton, our Director of Professional Education and Research, discussed growing worries about opioid addiction on BBC Radio Kent today.

Taking place on the station’s breakfast show, Tim discussed the rise in prescriptions of these powerful painkillers for longer periods to treat chronic pain, and the risk of becoming addicted opiates as a result.

He outlined that better education and awareness of the risk of addiction to painkillers such as Tramadol, along with better access to cognitive behaviour therapy and physiotherapy to treat chronic pain, would help ensure that the risk of opioid addiction is lowered.
