Clouds House, the residential treatment centre located in Wiltshire and run by national addiction charity Action on Addiction, has been rated Good in an inspection report published by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). The centre was given an overall rating of Good together with a clean sweep of Good across all areas of the inspection for being safe, effective, caring, responsive, and well-led, following an inspection in October 2018.
Clouds House has provided life-saving treatment to people suffering from addiction since 1983. The treatment provided includes medical detoxification, a recovery-focused programme based on interpersonal group therapy, education through lectures and workshops, one-to-one counselling, and support groups for family members.
National charity Action on Addiction, which runs Clouds House, focuses on offering high-quality, evidence-based residential rehab and community-based addiction services irrespective of clients’ ability to pay for their treatment.
In the report, which was published by the CQC on 20 December 2018, the inspectors described Clouds House as being safe, clean, well-equipped, well-furnished and well-maintained and found that: the treatment centre was accessible to all those who needed it; the dedicated admissions team worked effectively to minimise the length of time people had to wait for care and treatment; specific steps were taken to engage potential clients who were homeless and or difficult to contact during the assessment process; high-quality pre-admission assessment tools were used in the development of individually-tailored detoxification regimes; and staff provided a safe detox and treatment environment for clients.
Clients who were involved during the inspection visit told inspectors they were positive about the service they were receiving at Clouds House and praised it over other treatment centres which had treated them in the past. The clients also commented that staff worked hard to help them build healthy relationships with their families and make better links with the community.
In responding to the report, Graham Beech, Chief Executive of Action on Addiction, said:
"We are delighted to have been rated Good by the CQC in this our 35th Anniversary year at Clouds House. The report is testament to the dedication and expertise of our team. It highlights the many ways in which our clients benefit from working with a group of staff who are so knowledgeable and highly-skilled, and kind and compassionate. Our aim is to provide outstanding care to all our clients and their families, and our team is already addressing the small number of areas for improvement mentioned in the report so that even more people have the opportunity to move on with their lives in recovery, free from addiction.”
