Residential treatment provider Castle Craig has launched an International Essay Writing Competition to celebrate its 30th anniversary.

Intended for students of medicine, psychology, nursing, psychotherapy and social work, entrants are being asked to submit an essay of no more than 3,000 words on the subject of addiction.

There are three different essay questions on an aspect of addiction from which to choose:

  • Is addiction to a drug a brain disease?
  • What is the role of psychotherapy in realising and sustaining recovery from addiction?
  • ‘Society holds the solution to addiction because social problems are the main cause.’

The essays should be academic papers including references, and may rely on personal experiences, objective opinions or a general outlook.

The first prize essay will receive a reward of £1,000, and there will be up to five runner-up prizes of £250. Additional notable submissions will receive a written commendation.

The closing date is midnight on the 30th of December 2018 and should be accompanied by an application form, which you can download here.

Good luck!
