Sport Against Addiction Dinner and Auction 2008
The 2008 Sport Against Addiction campaign kicked off with the highlight of our sporting calendar, a fabulous dinner and auction at Quaglino's Restaurant. Tables were hosted by leading sports personalities such as John Conteh, Graham Bell , Damon Hill and David Coulthard. Guests enjoyed an exquisite three-course meal and had a chance to take part in our chocolate raffle to win a diamond tennis bracelet amongst other fabulous prizes.
The evening began with an luxurious reception where guests were treated to live themed music and a sporting juggler before sitting back to enjoy a spectacular sports parade including all our sporting legends - Graham Bell, Dick Best, Henry Brett, John Conteh, David Coulthard, Sean Fitzpatrick, Duncan Goodhew, Damon Hill, Ilie Nastase, Jonathan Palmer, Jonny Searle, Chris Sheasby, Paul Stewart , Fatima Whitbread and Peter Winterbottom.
The highlight of the evening was when guests were treated to an exclusive stand up from Rory Bremner followed by a fantastic live auction, which included prizes such as the opportunity to have Chef Skye Gyngell and Nick Mason of Pink Floyd cook for up to 20 guests in your own home, an adrenaline-filled spin with Top Gear's Stig and an amazing cricket lesson with Shane Warne.
Action on Addiction launched the Sport Against Addiction campaign to raise awareness of the positive effect that sport can have in helping people overcome their addiction or prevent them from developing an addiction. It emphasises the positive role sport plays in British life.
Sport Against Addiction has raised an amazing £660,000 for addiction research.
