Honours Degree

If you have graduated from the Foundation Degree (Fd Sc Addictions Counselling) we can give you the opportunity to further develop your knowledge and skills by progression onto the Honours programme.

This involves 1 year of full-time or 2 years part-time study, leading to a BSc (Hons) Addictions Counselling awarded by the University of Bath. As with the Foundation Degree, the Honours programme is designed and delivered by the Centre for Addictions Treatment Centre (CATS) and has a strong focus on work based learning.

The programme includes units on management skills and provides students with a sound underpinning for professional development to the role of team leader and beyond. Equal emphasis is given to research-based activities, in-depth counselling skills, and management.

The programme for full-time students runs from early October to the end of May with two week breaks for Christmas and Easter. Teaching generally takes place on Thursdays and Fridays and the remainder of each week is spent in placement.

Part-time students also attend teaching days on Thursdays and Fridays, although following a less intensive programme, spread over 2 academic years.

As with the Foundation degree, the part-time programme is for professionals working in the field of addictions treatment, and the work-based learning element of the course is undertaken at the student's place of work.

The Honours degree programme is currently only open to graduates of the Foundation degree.
