Continuing Professional Development

In addition to the degree programmes in Addictions Counselling, we offer an ongoing programme of education for professionals in the form of week-long courses with a focus on current best practice in Addictions Treatment.

These typically last for 5 days, and are designed for professionals already working in the field of addictions treatment. These may be attended on a residential basis or as daily attendees, as space permits. Successful compleation of a course will be recognised by the award of University of Bath credits.

From 2008, a number of 2-day courses will be offered, introducing the concepts and skills of management in an addictions setting. See Forthcoming Courses for further details.

Most 5-day courses combine with those offered as part of the Foundation Degree in Addictions Counselling (part-time programme), and are open to professionals who wish to attend on a stand-alone basis.

The 2-day management courses form part of the Honours programme, and are also available to professionals wishing to attend on a stand-alone basis. Attendees may be awarded transferable credit at Level 5 by the University of Bath.

Additional courses may be offered outside the Foundation Degree programme, details of which will posted on this website (Forthcoming Courses), and will also be advertised in relevant journals and other professional websites.

For individuals wishing to attend the 5-day courses (who are not registered on the Foundation Degree) the fee for 2007-08 is currently £350 per 5-day course, offered on a non-residential basis.

Please contact the Centre for Addictions Treatment Studies (CATS) Administrator for details of residential costs, and for cost of the 2-day management courses. A Certificate of Continuing Professional Development will be given to all attendees. All courses are subject to availability.
