Addiction Charity Offers Specialist Service for Company Staff.

In BusinessAction on Addiction is launching 'In Business', a specialist service dedicated to tackling addiction problems amongst the UK's workforce. Supporting companies, employees and their families, Action on Addiction offers a variety of tailor made treatment programmes for every individual when it is required.

Research has estimated that the total costs incurred by UK industry as a result of substance misuse are around £2.8 billion a year. And over 14 million working days are lost each year in the UK as a result of substance misuse. As well as absenteeism, employees with substance abuse problems can be disruptive at work, causing stress to themselves and colleagues and have lower productivity levels.

Nick Barton, Joint Chief Executive of Action on Addiction, "Dealing with addiction problems at work can be very difficult. Our team of counsellors and training professionals make this as straightforward as possible for everyone involved. By working with the individual, their family and the company the best outcome is achieved for all concerned".

One in three people in the UK suffer from an addiction and the United Kingdom remains at the top of the European ladder for drug use and drug dependence. Action on Addiction has an accredited residential centre at Clouds House, which is acknowledged as a leader in addiction treatment and family support.

As well as providing residential treatment for employees with addiction problems, where possible, Action on Addiction's treatment team will liaise with the company to combine the achievement of treatment goals while the employee remains at work. This unique scheme also provides training and courses about addiction and related issues for employers' to ensure alcohol and drug policies are up to date and work in practice.

With over 23 years of experience of helping employed people from the boardroom to the shop floor this new scheme aims to tackle substance misuse problems at the earliest possible opportunity.
