David Morrissey and Chris Gascoyne Give Their Support to SHARP Liverpool's Celebrity Christmas Cuisine

02 December 2009

Actors David Morrissey, Chris Gascoyne (Coronation St) and Donnaleigh Bailey (Doctors) gave their support to SHARP Liverpool as part of a group of celebrities from the world of entertainment and sport who attended last nights fundraising dinner at 60 Hope St.

David Morrisey commented, "This is a charity that's very dear to me, there are not many people these days who don't know someone who is affected by addiction/alcoholism. SHARP Liverpool is changing that around and making a huge difference, soon we will all know someone in recovery".

Chris Gascoynes character in Coronation St has faced a battle with alcoholism, "Its rewarding to know that the storyline in Coronation Street has enabled people to be aware of the options for support for them, such as Alcoholics Anonymous and the other mutual aid groups. Im very happy to support  a charity doing such innovative work. Its been especially exciting to know we are backing the SHARP Liverpool staff who have  just been nominated for the NATIONAL DRUG TEAM OF THE YEAR 2009 Award and are in the final 5 projects listed to attend the awards ceremony in London next week.".

David Morrissey added, "I think the work that SHARP Liverpool does across Merseyside is really cutting edge, providing excellent therapeutic treatment to so many people who have had their lives blighted by the pain of addiction. I want to support this project. We are in difficult times of the recession and we have to ensure that quality treatment centres like this can continue to grow and provide accessible services for the many individuals and families who need it here in my hometown."

Actress Donnaleigh Bailey commented, "Such a great night, it's inspiring to meet so many people who have found their way to a life of recovery by completely having faith in the work that SHARP does to turn their lives around."

Head of Service at SHARP Liverpool Jacquie Johnston-Lynch added, "We have made over £5000 for the charity, with more monies promised. I really cant thank people enough. It was a really lovely evening with a lot of very generous and extremely kind support!".
