Action on Addiction Launches Yoga Week to Promote a Healthy Body and Mind

22 September 2009

Yogathon to take place at the Alchemy Centre, Camden Sunday 27th September. Yoga Week runs from 27th September - 4th October 2009.

Action on Addiction are delighted to announce that their first Yogathon will take place on Sunday 27th September at the Alchemy Centre to launch the beginning of their Yoga Week.

Action on Addiction is looking for participants of all abilities to perform a number of sun salutations during a yoga session of between 1-1½ hours. Participants will be asked to raise a minimum of £100 sponsorship. Alternatively people can organise their own yoga fundraising event as part of Yoga Week. You could...invite friends over to do a yoga night, organise a yoga class for your local school or host your own sun salutation challenge and donate the proceeds to Action on Addiction.

Olympic Silver medallist Leon Taylor has given his support to Action on Addiction's Yoga Week, "I'm delighted to be supporting Yoga Week 2009 in aid of Action on Addiction. Whether you are new to Yoga or are a professional anyone can get involved. It's a great way for you to get fit together with your friends, family or Yoga group whilst also supporting a great cause"

Yoga is often used as a complimentary therapy as part of the treatment programme for addiction. It is seen as highly beneficial and one that many clients continue after leaving treatment as part of their ongoing recovery.
