SHARP Liverpool Addiction Treatment Centre Launches Film and Taxi Fleet at the FACT Centre Wood St
29 October 2007
The Self Help Addiction Recovery Programme in Liverpool has seen 55 addicts and alcoholics graduate clean and sober from their service during the past 26 months.
This remarkable achievement is being celebrated with the launch of a film about the treatment centre alongside the launch of a fleet of 3 taxis advertising the service to anyone who feels they have a drug/alcohol dependency.
SHARP Liverpool Head of Service, Jacquie Johnston-Lynch, "Now that the treatment centre has been fully open for just over two years, we are really seeing the results of such a highly intensive and specialist service coming to fruition".
Not content with resting on their laurels the SHARP Liverpool staff considered new ways of reaching people who may never have heard of SHARP or may never have even considered that abstinence from drugs or alcohol was an option for them. Jacquie added, "We want to bring this service to the still struggling alcoholic and addict, we want people to know that we are here and that there is something we can offer them if they truly want to stop the life they are leading as an active alcoholic/addict. By making the film our aim is to offer hope to people in a striking visual way on dvd that potential clients can watch either in their own homes or with a support worker, probation officer etc. The taxi idea was a way of fully raising the profile of the service to the general public and making our telephone number available daily on the city streets on the sides of each vehicle".
Tony Waters, a graduate of the SHARP Programme commented, "SHARP provided me with the care and treatment I truly needed at the time. I was very ill and had faced death as a consequence of my using and drinking, but with the help of the staff there I was able to turn my life around. I am now 22 months clean and sober after 28 years of active addiction. I hope the taxis and the dvd reach all the people full of despair right now"
