Brief Residential Programme for Families and Friends
Families Plus offers a five-day residential programme for the relatives and friends of alcohol and drug dependents. This is usually held at a retreat centre in Warminster, Wiltshire, and offers information about addiction and its effects on others, and guidance on related subjects, such as anger management and self-esteem. Group therapy provides an opportunity to explore more personal issues and to receive help and support with those issues.
Workshops and less formal meetings cover a range of subjects in a less structured way.
A formal evaluation has indicated that this short intervention can make a significant difference to the recovery process for the whole family.
Participants' personal reflections on recent Family Programmes:
"At Ivy House I found a safe environment where I could let go of the pain that I've kept deep within me for so many years."
"A very helpful and enlightening week. I wish I had done this years ago."
"I would recommend this programme .. I feel it is a vital part of my recovery to receive help and support from specialists within the field of addiction. The benfits are lifechanging."
"Having struggled with family members caught up in addiction for over 30 years I was still unaware of how much help I needed. This programme has been a turning point in my life. I have safely been able to look at the past, show my emotions and begin to rebuild my life."
